gizmag Article: BMW’s 1200GS gets (very) serious!. Here’s a very lightweight dual-sport bike boxer twin from BMW. New new new! Hot hot hot! Dual-sport bikes have always seemed too tall – this bike’s seat height ranges from 31·9 to 35in – they offer a combination of three optional seats and standard adjustability, something I hear is getting more and more popular. Gee, I just wonder if that’s the influx of women riders being heard, here? Probably we will never know for sure. I look forward to giving it a spin though. I wonder how long it will take for long-distance tourers to exchange the smallish fuel tank for a larger one and other modifications for making it a round-the-world touring machine like the KLR 650. But maybe that’s not even in the same class…And really, maybe I’m being cantankerous, but who truly needs 1200 cc’s?
Love your blog. Well done! It’s fresh and original. Reminds me of my early 20’s when I owned & enjoyed a Honda 350. I thought those free spirited days were lost, but after reading your blog…..perhaps not. Keep up the good work. Donna
Carla, just go for a ride on an R1200GS and you’ll understand everything. It is NOT a trail or motocross bike but it will do almost anything you ask it to. I’ve had mine for 8 months now with 13.000 KM on it, http://www.rocteur.cc/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album63 . I’d be very interested in reading what you think of it after riding the Guzzy around the Adriatic sea you lucky devil! It may be a little long for you, I’m 5’9 and with the low seat it is great on the road but off road I sometimes wish I was closer to the ground. Great site BTW! Jerry
Having just read the article you’re linking to you’re actually talking about the New HP 2 Enduro and I was talking about the R1200GS. Different beasts indeed! Sorry about the confusion.
When I am tired of hearing from my customers, I go to your web site, conveniently hidden behind a huge Excel file…
Just a thought about the BMW HP2: after a few decades they finally have a bike that weights the same as the…BMW 80 GS, that appeared in the market 23 years ago.
Give it a normal fuel tank, somewhere to hang your luggage, a central stand and…your are back to /200 Kg.
Not for me. I’ll keep my old GS. It’s so old that nobody wants to steal it and when it falls, my only concern is to put it up again…
If you are near Dubrovnik and need help, I have a fiend that has a cousin that is married to someone there. Really…
Drive carefully. I envy you!
