Women Riders Retreat in Temagami July 14-17, 2011 connects motorcycling experience with personal and professional empowerment.

Rht-abo Trillium Motorcycle Tours and Events today announced the introduction of a 3-day Women Riders Retreat, July 14-17, 2011 at Smoothwater of Temagami, a wilderness lodge 4.5 hours north of Toronto.

Designed specifically for riders, the event will pair facilitated group activities and unstructured solitary time with riding.  The synergy that results will heighten self-awareness, awaken inherent strengths and allow participants to apply them towards personal transformation through an unequivocal experience.  The area’s ancient pine forests, lakes, fresh air and easy road access makes it the ideal setting for a motorcycle retreat.

“Riding a motorcycle proficiently builds confidence, courage, flexibility, an ability to manage risk and a sense of adventure,”  says Liz Jansen, seasoned rider and President of Trillium Motorcycle Tours & Events.  “Often we are oblivious to the role riding has played in developing personal power and leadership skills.  Taking time to step back from the voices and needs of others allows us to realize our strengths and apply them to other areas of our lives.  While the focus is on understanding ourselves better,”  Jansen continues, “we will discover how the relationship with our bikes enhances this.“

According to a 2008 survey by the US Motorcycle Industry Council, the average age of riders is 42 and women comprise 22.7% of operators – a number that has surely grown since then (though data is not yet available for 2009 and 2010).  All of this is happening at a time of major life transition when people are taking stock of their life and searching for meaning.  Since motorcycling itself elicits a meditative, spiritual experience, it is a natural partner for a synergistic retreat experience.
