Today I went up to Vista, California to visit ULI, the original inflatable SUP company started by a surfer who loves to travel. Check out the blog, it’s awesome, and so is the gallery of people SUPing off waterfalls and other daring feats. ULI has a bunch of high-performance race and surf boards and some touring-specific boards. The boards I’ve got to test out are for a a combo of touring and surfing: The 11′ Steamroller, a beginner board and a nice 2-person board (can handle to 320 pounds), which they say is their most popular board, and the 10′ Lopez, an “advanced” surf iSUP that’s also good for paddling in the bay, which is good, because I don’t know how to surf (yet). Touring boards are longer, they’ve got a 14-foot and a 12’6″ touring/surf iSUP. They’re a small operation, and the only SUP company that only make inflatables. Steve in ULI Production showed up for our meeting with his board rolled up and strapped on the back of his GS Adventure. Yep, he’s living it. Stay tuned for an interview about his journeys.
