Sunday afternoons are a thing here, highly entertaining and educational, too. Oil pan provided. Tools. Advice. Bring your own essential liquids.
The mission of Re-Cycle Santa Cruz is to get old motorcycles back on the road and to teach people how to fix them. They're also happy to help with more modern bikes. Last weekend I rode my KTM 950 SuperMoto over there and mentioned that my gear shift seemed to be getting stiff.
So, Liza rummaged around and found a bottle of mineral oil, which is a KTM thing. Expensive! And generously shared the couple of teaspoons I needed, and it definitely fixed the problem. A few weeks previous she helped me get rid of the auxiliary wiring on my KLR.
Fun times, right?
It's a party, it's a bike show, it's a garage, and it's a great place to hang out and meet people on Sunday afternoons.
The podcast was a blast. There was a lot of joking around, a lot of wisdom, advice, and opinions. Tune in and you'll find you're among friends.
It's a lively two-hour show with six hosts, all of whom are extremely knowledgable about bikes, wrenching, and history. (I loved Emma's historical review of motorcycles in Europe, Russia, and India). There's a Q&A session where listeners write in to get their moto questions answered. Kind of like Car Talk for motorcycles but riders can also get advice on modifications and next bikes for their riding style.
I'll definitely be back on the show to talk more about motorcycle travels, we only talked about my first solo motorcycle journey to France, my US trip blogging across the county on the Ural, China on the Chang Jiang, and my bicycle journey in West Africa. I may also return to talk about travel writing.
