Motorcycle Accident? Loophole may deny you heath care benefits

by Carla King in Uncategorized1 Comments

This is bad: A loophole caused by a Department of Health and
Human Services’ rule allows your health care provider to deny you benefits for illness or injury caused by participation in  so-called "risky" transportation and recreational activities like
horseback riding, motorcycling, snowmobiling, skiing, or riding all-terrain
vehicles.

This is good: The HIPAA Recreational Injury Technical Correction Act will close that loophole.

Get your rep to support it, so your group health plan or health insurance issuer will not be able to deny you
benefits otherwise provided under the plan or coverage for the
treatment of an injury solely because such injury resulted from the
participation of the individual in a legal mode of transportation or a
legal recreational activity. Here’s an easy way to take action.

Let your Representatives know you want them to co-sponsor and support H.R.
1076, "The HIPAA Recreational Injury Technical Correction Act."
This link will take you to the American Motorcyclists Association Rapid Response Center — you don’t have to be a motorcyclist, just use the text they provide to automatically send your letter, edit if you want to, and press SEND.

ACT NOW and ask your friends to act now, too.
