Today for my 31 Days of Women in Motorcycling series, the spotlight is on Misti Hurst. Misti, a racer, superbike school coach, and writer, came to my attention through some women in powersports colleagues who are more into racing than I am. Thank you! She raced the AMA Supersport Championship Series and selected Formula Extreme races along with her teammate and fellow California Superbike School Coach Josh Galster, and works at CSS school dates throught the United States and also as a freelance writer for various magazines.
Misti learned how to ride a motorcycle in 2000 at the age of 24 on what she described as "a well-used CBR 600." She says that then, "I upgraded in January 2001 to a brand new Kawasaki ZX6-R after logging over 50,000kms on the CBR. In April 2001 my friend Scott invited me down to Seattle International Raceway to watch a mutual friend Oliver Jervis race, promising me a few laps on the track as part of the "taste of racing" program. I was so excited, and the minute I got on the track, I thought, "this is what I'm supposed to do". I knew right away, I had to do this. Came back in, huge smile, huge grin….where do I sign up?"
