Passing on this missive from Gregory today, check out his writing at Horizon’s Unlimited:
The hard way around the world is looking at it roll past through a window. I have managed to get a 23-year old motorcycle, 63-year old Grandmother with Parkingson’s Disease and my grizzled self to the “End Of The World” but it was only a set of struggles. One struggle was for the pillion to put up with a grumpy lone wolf (me), and another struggle was for the little motorcycle to pack us both over the Andes and some ugly roads. Wild webmaster Grant Johnson has done his magic again and gotten words and photos up under “What’s New” for February, 2005, ROAD NOTES: Colombia to the End of the Earth.” If you want to see how my passenger saw the same ride you can look at some other photos and tall tales at www.ultimategloberide.com
We have now tagged the furthest points North and South on the continents of North and South America. Much has changed since I did this in 1997-1998. Back then our American dollar was worth something and many of the roads I traveled were unpaved or in bad condition. Now some of those roads have only potholes in the pavement and it costs $5.00 for a gallon of gas.
We will ride to Buenos Aires, then try to figure out how to get across the pond to Africa without having to take out a third mortgage on a house. If any of you have a private plane that you could send down here to fly us across we would appreciate it. I have ruled out the “work our way across on a tramp steamer” option knowing that with my luck I would be deep in the hold shoveling coal for 10 hours a day while Donna-Rae would be having high tea with the captain.
Cheers from the pampas of Patagonia in Argentina.
