work everywhere in the world, but in practice they are only
useful in countries for which they have map data available, so
as to provide you with ‘you are here’ information on a map
display rather than meaningless raw latitude and longitude data." Mentioned is that Tom-Tom, one of the motorcycle GPS makers has "a more limited range of maps." Read the article.

  • I was disappointed in the National Parks map I bought through Garmin for my hand-held GPS. It doesn’t have Big Basin, one of my favorite hiking places, on it. For some reason, it doesn’t have Saratoga either. I can’t understand why such a popular park like Big Basin wouldn’t be on the maps. But it did have Zion Nat’l Park, and it has Yellowstone, for when I finally make it there.
