Hawaii Volcano Viewing in Puna
The volcano on the Big Island is spewing some bad air at the top of the mountain, so Volcanos National Park is pretty much shut down. But Pele has sent down a lava tube to the ocean in Puna that splits just before it pours into the water, creating two spectacular entry points side-by-side. I’ve loaded a slideshow on my website, and below are a couple of short videos I shot, one during the day and one at night. By the way, the viewing area is over a half mile away and accessible enough that kids, grandparents, and busloads-full of Japanese tourists can walk to it, even at night. If you go, check this site for latest activity. The Volcano Watch newsletter is also pretty interesting, with great photos.
