I’ve settle back in at home and am tying up loose ends from my European ride (on the Moto Guzzi Breva 750 IE) Around the Adriatic. Stuff like an article for Moto Guzzi’s membership magazine, Aquila, and last Friday spent with Genevieve Schmitt shooting a Fox Sports TV segment, “Let’s Ride.”
Dudley Perkins Harley-Davidson lent us a couple of bikes. Genevieve rode the owner’s custom Fat Boy and I got the V-Rod. We took off from my house – believe me, all the neighbors came out to take a look when we fired up those rumbling HD engines. We took a back route through the Presidio to the Golden Gate Bridge and cruised over to the Marin Headlands. I think I got into 3rd gear once all day long. This bike is meant for long, fast, American highways. After being on the Breva for six weeks it was strange riding a bike that had my arms and legs stretched nearly straight in front of me. I kept putting my feet where I thought the foot-pegs should be – straight down. Nope. Though awkward at first, I came to like it by the end of the day, and was reluctant to return it. Waah.
Genevieve is an excellent riding companion and I hope we get to ride together again one day. She’s the one who had that Cordura Olympia Moto Sports outfit (the Mustang jacket and pants), that I ended up taking on my trip. Anyway, look for the segment in November. I’ll let you know the exact date and time once it gets closer.
