Maybe I’m late to this info but AAA has got their motorcycle insurance act back together again. Yay! Roadside assistance is back! I learned – the hard way – some years ago that they’d discontinued their roadside assistance program, and of course me, with my strange little bikes – Urals, Enfields – I really needed it. I remember one particularly chilly sunset along a lonely road with a beautiful view of Tomales Bay, me and my companion hanging out over a cliff trying to get our cellphones to connect (Cingular and Sprint), and between us getting the news that, nope, we don’t do that any more. It was was one of the few times I’ve ridden on the back (gak!) of motorcycle, and to add insult to injury, the Norton ran out of gas. Seems all the gas stations in that region close at 7pm, just FYI. I have never really been happy with the other policies I’ve had, and am glad to be back with AAA If you’re in California (and maybe Nevada, too) call Cece, who really knows the biz and is great fun to talk with. Tell her I sent you. Here’s the 411:

Not so sure about AAA roadside assistance!
After a rear flat on my Harley I called the emergency number on my AAA roadside Insurance card. The lady was very nice and nicely told me that they cover anything but towing. Perhaps they’ll help with keys locked on the bike or offer up a watter bottle as I sit on the curb wondering my next step.
AAA in Washington towed our motorcycle on a nice flatbed truck about 65-70 miles last summer. The driver asked us where we wanted to go within a 100 mile range, so we were able to get the largest town in the region rather then the closest town with amenities. Worked out very nicely. BTW, we have the more expensive AAA coverage — it costs around $115/year.
AAA Southern New England says they do NOT have Roadside Assistance for motorcycles. They will help you to get gas, but that is it.
AAA is NO GOOD. They advertise motorcycle roadside assistance but when you need it and call them, they tell you that you are covered only for cars and trucks and that you have to purchase a special motorcycle/RV policy. I’ve been paying for 2 years and had to call a friend tonight when my headlight failed because of a broken wire on the ignition switch. AAA said they’d be happy to help me at the standard towing rate which is half again as much as the tow company charges if you call them directly. What a bunch of Bozos.
