  • Get an H/D touring handbook and follow the highlighted routes. VT & NH are generally no fail, but the Kancamagus highway is a must. Rte 1 thru ME is awesome with great eating. I generally read the triple D list of places visited and plan that way. ‘ Haven’t ridden much in the other three states but would avoid most MA highways as they’re a free for all. Enjoy.

  • Thanks very much Rob – I did get more input on 1 through Maine and the scenic byways that hook up to 1 as a top 10 in the USA.

  • I fondly remember driving out of Boston to Canada, and finding Vermont – being so surprised at how lush it is. Thanks much!

  • Western MA, Western VT – Rte 8, 7 are lesser known gems than the better known 100. Rte 9 across Southern VT and NH is a nice enough E/W route. There are still many areas impacted by last year’s hurricane Irene damage. Rte 2 across N.MA has a couple of one lane bridges due to this damage. Depending on your objectives, and time of year you are travelling? It’s still very early spring, and VT is dull and brown at any elevation.
