Carson Valley / Lake Tahoe Adventure Moto is a four-day event for people who like to ride motorcycles on twisty paved mountain roads, or scenic backcountry dirt roads, or both. It’s a motorcycle rally with an emphasis on riding, seeing new places, and building skills. Both street bikes and dual sports are welcome.
This is the second annual edition of the event. The inaugural rally in 2012 was called the Lake Tahoe Adventure Motorcycle Ride and Rendezvous and was headquartered at Stateline, Nevada, at Lake Tahoe. The event has moved to Carson Valley, Nevada, approximately 30 minutes away from Lake Tahoe. Yes, it was so much fun, I’m back for more. This is one of three events I regularly attend. (The others are Overland Expo in Arizona and Horizons Unlimited, California.)
Why did the event move to Carson Valley?
Event headquarters are in Minden, Nevada. The headquarters hotel is the Carson Valley Inn. I’m staying at David Wally’s Hot Springs Resort, because, well, I love hot springs. It’s located in Genoa, about 10 minutes from event headquarters, which is the oldest settlement in the area.
Accommodations are available at several other lodging properties in the area, at a variety of affordable rates. There is affordable, including free, camping nearby in RV parks, public and private campgrounds, and undeveloped camping on public lands.
Great motorcycle rides on paved and unpaved roads head out from Carson Valley in every direction. Many loop rides of 40 to 400 miles can be done in a single day with the Carson Valley as a convenient basecamp. Here’s information about Carson Valley.
This year the event is more affordable. Full-price fee for the four-day event is $225. Substantial discounts of as much as $80 apply for early registration. Participants can bring along a pillion rider for an additional $99. Single-day passes cost $95 for Friday or Saturday. Register
Here’s more information about what happens at the event, and when.
Besides great riding on uncrowded roads, the Carson Valley / Lake Tahoe Adventure Moto offers seminars, vendors displays, and motorcycle skills training from two of the best schools around. Dirt skills training is available from the Jimmy Lewis Off-Road Riding School. Street riding skills training is available from Streetmasters Motorcycle Workshops. Both dirt and street training classes are at additional fees. Both schools will offer skills demonstrations during the event at no additional cost.
