I’ve joined a gang. The Black Rock Riders is a motley crew of various and sundry Burning Man organizers and participants who took off on a motley selection of various and sundry motorcycles from San Francisco for the first Black Rock Riders ride on Saturday. Rides included a Honda Rebel with a flame motif to a Harley Davidson and a bunch of Beemers and Italian and Japanese bikes including one covered in purple fur. I am definitely going to have to get with the program and do something about the plain blue paint job on the K75. Sixteen of us — including five women — rolled up Highway 101 to 161 to Bodega Bay, winking at the little kids, buckled into the back seats of SUVs, who were pressing their little faces to the windows grinning widely. (Mommy! Mommy! I want a motorcycle for my birthday!")

Bodega Bay was foggy but warm and we parked ourselves at the big deli by the bay (more grinning kids) for lunch before heading back in smaller groups. My group of four zoomed down Highway One to Point Reyes Station, turned off to Nicasio Reservoir, down through Woodacre and the redwoods (where there were, miraculously, no cars ahead of us to inhibit our speed through the curves). A classic Sunday ride finishing in Fairfax for fresh organic peach ice cream.
