I love motorcycle camping and I love my Bibler Awahnee tent (over $600), and some people love the Sierra Designs Sirius 2 (under $200), and some of us sleep under a tarp or in a hammock. Here’s a review by Bluepoof.
I haven’t lusted after any other tent for such a long time that the Nemo Morpho AR ($400ish) took me by surprise. It has inflatable air beams (their technical term) instead of bendy poles (my technical term) to hold it up. Yes, it comes with a foot pump, so don’t forget it or you’re going to have to blow. The Nemo also comes with the best tent stakes I have used while camping. If it’s raining you can get inside it and pump it up without getting wet. I can do that with my Bibler, with bendy poles. And I love my Bibler’s two huge windows. (So there.) Anyway, like my Bibler, the Nemo tent is breathable and waterproof and doesn’t need a rainfly.
I still love my Bibler (now Black Diamond) but it’s hard to recommend a $600 tent. Still, I don’t know of a better investment. It’s light, but sturdy. It even stood up to Burning Man winds while everybody around me collapsed–even geodesic domes. And I love the big door-window and the yellow interior. Keeps me cheered up when I’m stuck in a foggy campground.

I’m a total tent geek too. Just got a REI Quarter Dome T2 and love it. The pole configuration allows for lots of headroom and even though it’s almost all mesh under the rainfly, it held up fine to pretty heavy winds and cool temperatures the first time I used it the other weekend.
