I’m happy to report that I’ve been able to post dispatches to my Motorcycle Misadventures website fairly successfully here in Italy as there are many Internet cafes with high-speed DSL and they’re much more hip to laptops than they were in 2001. I’ve posted 8 so far, you can read them here.
Regarding gear – the Breva 750 IE is a fabulous touring bike for Italy. It’s powerful and peppy but not a monster and extremely responsive. It negotiates the small cobblestoned streets of tiny Italian villages and the high-speed autostradas, too, passing big trucks effortlessly. I’ve ridden it up hills on twisty roads, hit a bit of gravel and dirt, also rain (yuck), and feel very stable. I’m very happy!
I’m also extremely happy with my gear. (Gear is everything once you hit bad conditions.) The Olympia Moto Sports “Mustang” jacket and jeans is good looking and easy to wear, letting air through, also water resistant. It’s got pockets where you want them, and removeable pads. The Specter Road boots are very comfortable and look nice, too. I’ve hiked all over Venice with them. they’re also seem quite waterproof.
Read more in the dispatches. And I’d love to hear from you.

Ooo la la! an almost pick-up by a Russian author, wonderful parties and fab food and interesting people. What an adventure thus far…can’t wait for the next dispatch!
