I don’t know why this wasn’t on my radar until now, but I just discovered (through my WIMA list) Linda’s epic solo motorcycle journey, now completed. Her 21 month trip from Gibraltar to Australia was made on a Suzuki DR 650. The journey began in Castelar de la Fronteira (Spain) in April 2005 and ended in Australia in January 2007.

Why the "Suzy?: Because her "BM is 28 years old and therefore always need something doing on it. It is also about 70kgs heavier than the Suzy and eats twice as much oil and petrol. The new BMs are too heavy and far too expensive for me."

(Suzy the Suzuki has her own maintenance diary on the website.)

I love Linda’s answers in her FAQ – her answers are so close to my answers, such as:

Why travel? "I don’t really need a reason other than I like to travel to other countries to see the people and places."

Why travel by motorcycle?: "I have been using a bike to travel ever since I learnt to ride one in the 1960’s. To me it is a friendly way to travel. You meet the people more easily than in a car as it is more unusual and open. I haven’t got the energy for a bicycle and I get very travel sick on buses."

She also answers the question, "Aren’t you scared?" about the woman traveling alone thing. I’ll let you read it for yourself. Yay, Linda!

This woman is definitely one of our current role models. Read her stories.
